The Desert Foxes Racing Team was created to assist members who wish to compete in organized USCF sanctioned races.  Racing can not be done with 20 mile rides and group rides that go up and down the river path. It takes commitment, time, money, and many hours on the bicycle.  If a member would like to challenge herself and undertake this commitment, the Desert Foxes will provide training, competition, and race specific education.

Race Team Membership

All Race Team members are members of the Desert Foxes Cycling Club, and must abide by the Desert Foxes Cycling Club Membership Rules.  All club members are welcome to race, regardless of skill, desire, intent or motivation. Members that want to race will now have a competitive venue to train and/or ride. Now competitive riders will not be hindered by riders that just want to ride leisurely, or just for fitness.  There are two separate group rides, one for racers and one for the casual riders. Note: All club members are allowed to join the competitive rides BUT are responsible for knowing the route (or the way back home) and their own mechanical repairs--there will be no waiting for dropped riders.

Anyone wishing to be a member of the Race Team shall meet the requirements stated in the Race Team Rules. These riders will vie for a position on an "A Squad". All positions on the A Squad will be determined by the coaches and may vary from race to race depending on an individual racer's suitability for the race at hand. Selection is not necessarily based solely on performance.  The selection process will include race results, teamwork, Desert Foxes Prestige Points standings, the ability to positively represent our sponsors,  and a commitment to training. Members selected for the A Squad will receive additional bonuses such as a 20% discount at Fair Wheel Bicycles, Specialized Factory Team Deals, and personalized training--this is the motivation for those that are competitive to become better cyclists and more competitive.

The A Squad will be provided with personalized training schedules and will train together. They will also be provided with a different Racing Jersey to be worn at the event, to be returned after the event.  Anyone not making the A Squad who still wishes to compete in an event becomes part of the B Squad.  The B Squad will race competitively against the A Squad with its own tactics.  This will encourage using teamwork and a differing strategy, and will provide B Squad members an opportunity to demonstrate why they should be on the A Squad the following event.

Any club member may race at any time.  Race Team requirements are not necessary by anyone that does not wish to compete for a position on the A Squad.  Racing will never be discouraged by anyone.  All members that show interest in racing will gain knowledge and experience from riding with the "racer's" group.  All club members, regardless of race team participation, are eligible for the Desert Foxes Prestige Points.

The purpose of this structure is to provide competition among our members.  It may further afford our racers category upgrades. The ultimate goal is to establish an Elite team of category 3 racers and an Elite team of category 2 racers.
